Great Start Taita, Lower Hutt

Great Start Taita is a community led development initiative connecting local residents with others, such as community groups and local and central government, interested in ensuring Taita is a great place for children to grow up.

Taita residents, young and old, are supported to identify and explore ways to meet their aspirations for themselves, their family and their community.

Some of the projects currently being undertaken are: the development of an outdoor play space; a Taita toy library; and a community garden. Alongside this the Great Start house at 5 Cooper St Taita provides physical spaces for  local community groups and service providers to use and the Great Start team offers them, where appropriate, encouragement, resources and opportunities to get to know each other.

Great Start Taita Team are working with the Hutt SPACE National Team from the Hutt Playcentre Association to provide the SPACE programmes for their community. To find out more or enroll, contact Karen (04) 567 5437 karen.clifford@barnardos.org.nz.
